Lifesaving Tips for Tree Stand Safety Every year, hunters are seriously injured, paralyzed, or killed falling out of tree stands. Falls from tree stands have become a major cause of hunting related injuries and fatalities in New York. The proper use of tree stands, full-body harnesses, and safety lines will help to prevent these injuries and fatalities. Hunting from a tree stand is a safe and enjoyable way to hunt as long as a few basic safety principles are followed: Inspect your tree stand before using it. Replace any worn or broken parts. Wear a full-body harness, buckle it securely, and use a safety line. The majority of falls happen while hunters are climbing up and into their stand, or climbing down, so connect to the tree before your feet leave the ground and stay connected until you get back down. Let someone know where your stand is located and when you plan to be home. Use a haul line to raise your unloaded gun, cocked crossbow, or bow with quiver up to the stand. Never tie the haul line to the trigger guard. Carry emergency equipment, such as a knife, cell phone, flashlight, and whistle in your pockets at all times (not in your pack hanging in the tree). Bridge update 9/12 Br 163 Lordville is completely done! We are packed up, picked up, and moved out. I'd like to thank everyone for their patience. I know this wasn't easy for the all the residents and visitors in the Lordville area. This took longer than we would have liked, but it's done and this new bridge should last many many years with minimal maintenance. Jim Thomas

Bridge update Br 163 Lordville. We are ready to pave today but Cobleskill put us off until tomorrow. We will let the school bus through in the morning, and afternoon if needed. Hopefully we’ll be done by the time the afternoon bus goes through. If all goes well tomorrow, the bridge will be open at the end of the day to all traffic. We will still have guiderail and cleanup to do so still expect delays and construction, but traffic should be able to get through.

Bridges update 8/29 This will be the last update for 67-21! Br 67-21 is now complete and will be 2 lanes non stop now. We are replacing pipes on the rest of 67 and that will continue for a bit, then we will pave most of the road. 163 Lordville the backfilling is complete, approach work is still needed. Cobleskill is currently scheduled to pave the bridge and approaches on Wednesday 9/4 and our hope is to have it open on 9/5. There will still be work (guiderail mainly) while it is open so there will still be delays during the day to allow our equipment and personnel to finish the work.

Bridges update 8/28 67-21 guiderail should be completed today. Tomorrow we’ll remove the red lights and traffic will return to no restrictions there. 163 Lordville the deck was completed yesterday. We’ll now be backfilling the south approach. Once that is done we’ll reconstruct the roadway approaches. This will be a fair amount of work as the new deck is a bit higher than the old one. We will make sure the school bus can get through when school opens on 9/5, and hope to be able to at least partially open the bridge by (or near) then. It will not be complete by then so there will at least still be delays. We are still discussing internally how/when we can safely allow traffic while completing the work.

Bridges update 8/21 67-21 we are still working on the rail. The new 4 rail system takes time. Plus we are down a worker who just quit our guiderail crew. 163 Lordville continues to battle us the whole way. The concrete scheduled for today will not happen as Masters concrete plant in Starlight was struck by lightning and apparently did a lot of damage to the equipment there. They told us it will definitely not be supplying concrete this week with no promise as to when it might be up and running again. They will not bring us concrete from one of their other plants as they are too far away. Otsego Redi Mix is the only other concrete supplier that bids our work and they won’t deliver to Lordville as it is too far away. They couldn’t get us concrete until the end of next week anywhere anyway. Butts Concrete, Sullivan Structures and about anyone else we could find won’t deliver this far from their plant. Wayne County Ready Mix in Honesdale PA CAN get us concrete. They are scheduled for Monday with a (small) chance of being able to get us the 14 cubic yards we need this week. As soon as we can get it we will pour. On the bright side, the portion of the deck we can install is complete. We will backfill the north side of the bridge, and clean up the site while we wait for concrete. Down to just one crew there until we can pour concrete and finish that side of the bridge. The picture is from midday Monday. Probably no update Thursday night/Friday morning unless we can get concrete. It’ll be quiet until then, but we’re doing everything we can. Need concrete to move ahead.

Bridges update 8/19 67-21 rail is going on. Should be done this week. 163 Lordville. Decking will start today. Can only do about ½ the bridge until the other backwall is poured and cured. We will be ready for concrete on Wednesday 8/21 but Masters concrete plant in Starlight got struck by lightning on Friday and they had electrical problem because of that. As long as they got that fixed we’ll have all the concrete poured on Wednesday. Once all the decking is on we have a lot of paving and rail work to do to finish up.

Bridges update 8/15 67-21 we are working on the rail. Everything else is done. 163 Lordville we are working on the second (last) backwall. We have concrete scheduled for Wednesday 8/21 to pour that. We should start the deck either tomorrow or Monday. The end is near, but this bridge has not been an easy one.

67-21 bridge rail is being installed. Rain last week slowed us down but going good this week so far. 163 Lordville first backwall was finally poured. Not without issues as the first concrete truck showed up on the wrong side of the bridge and couldn’t make it to the correct side in time. Then the third truck broke down on the way to the job. We got him fixed enough to pour so all’s well that ends well. Both bridge crews are working on this now, hoping it goes smoother than the rest of the job. As nice as 67-21 went, this one is the opposite. Picture of 163 (Lordville) attached.
