The Town of Hancock and our community extends its deepest gratitude to the family of Mairah Gillow & Donald Wrighter Jr —and their relatives, friends and supporters—who came together to host a heartfelt fundraiser during this weekend’s 26th Annual Quarry Run.
The Bike Wash event, full of generosity and community spirit, was organized in loving memory of Jason McGlone, 3rd Assistant Chief of the East Branch/Hancock Fire Department, who tragically passed away in the line of duty. Proceeds from the fundraiser were directed to support the McGlone family during this unimaginable loss.
Jason's courage and service will never be forgotten, and our community mourns with the McGlone family. This weekend’s outpouring of kindness reminds us all what it means to come together in times of grief—honoring a hero by supporting the family he held dear.
“This community never fails to show up for one another,” said Town Supervisor Jerry Vernold, who rolled up his sleeves to support this wonderful cause. “It reminds us all that we need to be there for one another. To the Gillow family, your compassion is deeply appreciated. And to the McGlone family, please know we stand with you—now and always. Jason’s legacy lives on in every act of love and service that carries his name forward.”
To the Gillow family, thank you for showing the world what it means to be #HancockStrong.

Town Supervisor Jerry Vernold, alongside the Hancock Town Board, is set to unveil tentative plans to the community for a major new park project at the upcoming August 5th Town Board Meeting. These plan are made possible through a strategic partnership with the Delaware County Planning Office, and the proposed improvements include an ADA accessible children’s playground, expanded parking, and outdoor pavilion. These improvements are aimed at enhancing the existing park and making it a more family friendly event and outdoor space for local families and teens. "We want our local families and children to be able to grow up in a town that shows them how much we care about them," says Jerry Vernold, Hancock NY Town Supervisor.

🚨 Important Update: Postponement of Hancock Fireman’s Field Days 🚨
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the postponement of the 2025 Hancock Fireman’s Field Days, originally scheduled for Friday, July 25th and Saturday, July 26th, out of respect for the recent and sudden passing of a beloved East Branch Assistant Chief Jason McGlone of our East Branch fire department.
In this time of mourning, we stand in solidarity with their department, their families, and all who are grieving. To honor his memory, our department will be attending the upcoming services this Saturday and offering our full support during this incredibly difficult time. As such, a new date for Field Days will be announced once determined. We are deeply grateful to everyone who generously contributed toward this year’s fireworks display — each donor will be contacted individually regarding next steps.
Please note:
🎟️ The raffle drawing will still take place on the originally scheduled date.
We appreciate your understanding, compassion, and continued support as our community comes together in grief and solidarity. Thank you for standing with us. ❤️ — The Hancock Volunteer Fire Department
